HISTORY

ORIGIN

No one truly remembers where this daughter first took root - Only that once, long ago, she was mortal. A witch of the harvest, perhaps, or a daughter of the deep woods who listened too closely to the weeping of the earth. When her mortal body withered, something in her refused to fade. The wild remembered her name, and through its sorrow, she bloomed again. The Wildling wandered for a time, guided by dreams of decay and renewal, until the whispers beneath the soil drew her into the depths - To the place where the world itself was festering. There, among the endless roots and churning mycelium, she found the wounded god at the heart of the rot. To save what life remained, Willow offered herself in return. She became its voice, its anchor, its Herald - A being caught between the hush of death and the pulse of rebirth. Now she walks the waking world as both bloom and blight, a living echo of something ancient learning how to dream again. Those who meet her say flowers grow in her footsteps - And that when she smiles, the ground remembers what it means to heal.

CULTURE

The Fenfolk were a secluded tribal people who dwelled within the deep, mist-shrouded groves and bogs of the Blackwald. Outsiders called them witches, heathens, or bog folk, but to themselves they were kin bound by root and fen - A people who believed that life, death, and decay were all threads in the same great weaving. Their customs stretched back to the age of the Arathi Empire, when Gilneas was but a distant province and the Blackwald was a place even kings feared to tread. For centuries they endured at the edges of civilization - Tolerated when convenient, mistrusted always. They hunted by moonlight, brewed medicine from rot and bloom alike, and whispered their prayers to the unseen Wilds. To the Fenfolk, the earth was not silent; it remembered, it dreamed, it hungered. By the time Greymane’s Wall sealed Gilneas from the world, Willow’s people had already passed into rumour - Remembered only in half-truths, campfire tales, and warnings whispered to children who strayed too near the Blackwald. Yet travellers still speak of lantern-lights drifting through the mists on moonless nights, and of voices in the fog singing in a tongue the land itself has forgotten.

Seeds of Change

In the wake of her people’s fall, Willow wandered the wild places of the world - Not quite alive, not quite lost. Dreams guided her steps: dreams of roots that reached beyond the veil of death, of ancient groves whispering her name, of a heartbeat deep within the soil calling her home. Wherever she walked, the land stirred faintly in her wake - Flowers blooming from decay, moss reclaiming the ruins of what once was.Though she was shaped by solitude and silence, the wilds themselves seemed to conspire to draw her toward others. In time, her path crossed those whose souls also bore the weight of destiny - Wanderers, outcasts, dreamers, and blades. Among them, Willow found something she had not felt since the twilight of the Fenfolk: kinship. Their presence reminded her that even the most forsaken seeds can take root again, if given warmth enough to grow. Now, as the whispers of the sleeping Wild stir once more, Willow walks between two worlds - A creature of bloom and blight, decay and renewal. Whether she will herald the awakening of what lies below or nurture new life above remains unwritten. But wherever she goes, the land remembers, and something ancient begins to dream again.

WILLOW, THE LITTLE SPROUT

A living contradiction of bloom and decay, Willow drifts through the world like a secret spoken by the forest itself. Cascades of ember-bright, dreaded ginger hair tumble to her waist - Each lock braided with crow feathers, river-glass beads, and scavenged trinkets whose stories only she recalls. One eye gleams a luminous, feral gold; the other is a void-black mirror, as deep and silent as loam beneath the roots. To meet that mismatched gaze is to feel as though the woods are weighing your soul - Then laughing, softly, at your unease. Her garb is an ever-growing patchwork - Sun-bleached hemp stitched to brocade, old sail-cloth married to moss-dyed wool, held together by bright, mismatched thread. Vivid beads and tiny bones jingle at every stride, while sudden flares of sunset orange or spring bud green break the earthy palette. Over all, a poncho-cloak of woven vine, bark-fibre, and fraying silks drapes her shoulders; it rustles with hidden life, breathing with every breeze. From its fringes sprout colonies of pale mushrooms and emerald moss, thriving as though she were fertile soil made flesh. An intoxicating miasma follows wherever she wanders - Damp moss, crushed wildflower, warm rot, and the faint spark of ozone after summer rain. It is the scent of a forest caught between life and compost, birth and dissolution, the moment green becomes gold. In that aroma, in those mismatched eyes, in the quiet certainty of her stride, Willow remains an enigma: wild yet gentle, decaying yet vibrant, a keeper of secrets who speaks in spores and silence.

IMPORTANT NOTES

  • Deep Connection to Nature: Willow’s bond with the natural world runs deeper than mere druidic magic - It is instinctive, a pulse shared with the roots beneath her feet and the breath of the wind itself. Plants seem to lean toward her voice, and animals understand her silence. Her presence carries the hush of the forest after rain - Alive, aware, and quietly watchful. Even in stillness, she seems to listen to something unseen.

  • Duality of Character: The Wildling is a being of paradox - Fierce yet gentle, wise yet unguarded. Her soul is caught between the innocence of new growth and the fire of decay, a reflection of the cycle she embodies. This duality makes her mercurial but profoundly empathetic; she can burn with defiance or soothe with a whisper, often in the same breath. Those who meet her sense both the warmth of spring and the chill of autumn in her eyes.

  • Symbolism of Items: Every object Willow carries is a living extension of her story. Her staff, carved from rootwood and veined with faintly glowing lichen, anchors her to the earth and channels the will of the Wild. Her tattered witch’s hat, crowned in tiny mushrooms and forest charms, serves as both remembrance and ward - A symbol of wisdom reclaimed through ruin. Trinkets of bone, moss, and twine hang from her belt, each one a relic of memory, loss, or promise - Reminders that nothing living is ever truly gone, only changed.

POWERS / ABILITIES   - Infestation — Infest an enemy with fungal parasites from the corpse fungus, causing them to take damage over time and spread the infestation to nearby enemies.
- Decompose — Accelerate the decay of organic matter, causing dead bodies to rapidly decompose and create difficult terrain for enemies. This stems from the spores of corpse flowers, creating a putrid mire.
- Mycelial Mend — A cocoon of mycelium envelopes herself or an ally, releasing spores and healing enzymes to encourage regeneration and healing.
- Euphoric Spores — Release spores from magic mushrooms that induce a state of euphoria in enemies, causing confusion and reducing their effectiveness in combat.
- Regrowth — Accelerate the growth of plants and fungi in the area, restoring health to allies and rejuvenating the environment. This is enhanced by the healing spores of reishi mushrooms, known for their ability to promote cell regeneration and boost overall health.
- Fungal Ally — Summon a large, sentient fungal entity to aid in combat, attacking enemies with corrosive spores and fungal tendrils. It is fueled primarily by the corrosive spores of oyster mushrooms. His name is Terrance.
